Top Best Compact SUV

Do not automatically assume that compact SUVs are overly entry level or too small to your wants and needs. The latest entries in this booming segment offer amazingly spacious interiors with lots of the very same amenities found in the midsize section . Pricing for compact SUVs ranges in the low $20,000 level to over $40K. If this exceeds your budget, then it is well worth contemplating subcompact crossovers, which are slightly smaller and more affordable. For all-around utility, however, compact crossovers have an excellent blend of size, capacity, comfort, and usefulness, and of course carlike refinement which makes them easy to drive every day.

The sheer number of choices within this class might feel overwhelming, so we’ve made it simple by ranking every compact SUV from the class from worst to first. Each entry contains the vehicle’s starting price along with fuel-economy advice to help direct your search. To see how each vehicle fails, just click through.

Hyundai Nexo

If you’re thinking to yourself,”Gee, that Hyundai Nexo looks a little funny,” your instincts are right. It’s somewhat funny. It’s a technological powerhouse and the only hydrogen fuel-cell–powered car on this listing. (And it is one of only a few available in the USA on any listing.) Its last-place end has more to do with its restricted availability, limited refueling infrastructure, and high cost than its overall implementation, which is quite great. The Nexo is refueled with hydrogen at the couple filling stations in U.S., which can be located mostly in California, which is subsequently fed into the onboard fuel-cell stacks to create electricity. Thus, the pricey, high-tech Hyundai drives such as the electric car that it is, with smooth power delivery and usually quiet operation.

Jeep Compass

Among the best things the Jeep Compass has going for it is the fact that it resembles the larger, mid-size Grand Cherokee SUV. The Compass even offers a couple of handsome yells that its larger sibling lacks, such as a”floating” roof design and a sleeker nose. Nevertheless, the modern design cues don’t make up with this SUV’s lack of refinement anyplace else. The standard four-cylinder engine is feeble, and also the nine-speed automatic transmission that you’ll find in many Compass versions (a manual can be obtained ) does little to help make up for your engine’s lack of punch. The handling is truly better than the tall, boxy profile could suggest, and the Jeep Compass could be outfitted in Trailhawk guise for off-road duty. The interior is comfy but just average concerning materials and refinement.
